RESERVE – Pastor Steven Perriloux of Riverlands Christian Center in Reserve will soon have a life-long dream fulfilled when he travels to Japan to showcase his musical talents.
Perriloux along with artists Leo Nocentelli of Meters fame, Bernie Worrell, who has lent his talents to Parliament/ Funkadelic, and Fred Wesley, who played with James Brown, will perform original songs at Billboard Live in Tokyo and Osaka.
“Its a dream and purpose coming to pass, and as a drummer I knew God had given me a love for music. I’ve always seen myself with the ability to perform with some of those I looked up to such as these guys,” said Perriloux.
The musicians will perform over 10 songs from the ‘60s and ‘70s, including their popular songs “Fire on the Bayou,” “We Got the Funk,” and “Pass the Peas.” The rhythm-and-blues and funk hits are known for their rhythmic beats and catchy lyrics.
“I discovered how much I loved music in 1980 when I began imitating Stevie Wonder, and then I realized I can do this. I love seeing the joy on people’s faces as they enjoy the music,” said Perriloux
This year will be Perriloux’s 25th year as pastor for Riverlands Christian Center. He attributes most of his success to his church family and their support of his musical endeavors.
“The people of Riverlands Christian Center are such a blessing and have supported me and my purpose. Words are inadequate to describe the love they have shown to me and my family As the scripture says, we are the body of Christ and we all have a part in His body,” said Perriloux.
According to the pastor, faith in God, ambition and hard work are all important keys for a successful future.
“I would like to express to the young people out there that if you have a dream or talent, you must pursue it. Hold fast to it, and don’t let anyone discourage you from your dreams,” said Perriloux.
Perriloux, Nocentelli, Worrell and Wesley’s performances will take place Jan. 27, 2013.
