LAPLACE — Though it came in a 2-1 loss, St. Charles Catholic boys soccer coach Sean LeBlanc was extremely pleased his team’s showing against Zachary Saturday.
“It was our best all-around performance of the season,” said LeBlanc.
“That’s a good Class 5A team. We were well-organized and together defensively. It’s something we can build upon.”
The Comets fell behind quickly in the match when Zachary scored two goals within the first 15 minutes.
Jordan Snowdy answered for St. Charles, intercepting the attempt to clear the ball by Zachary’s goalkeeper and then scoring to slice the SCC deficit in half.
St. Charles appeared to score and tie the game within the last two minutes, but the goal was negated when St. Charles was whistled for an offsides violation.
LeBlanc said his players weren’t rattled after the early Zachary goals.
“You just need to have a short memory,” said LeBlanc. “Otherwise, you’ll let one mistake turn into 10.
“Just move on to the next play … Good or bad, all you can afford to worry about is what happens next.”
St. Charles is in the midst of a long break. The Comets will return to action Dec. 29 to host local rival Lutcher. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
