The American Legion Post 383 of LaPlace has been hard at work for the community. Calling upon the help of post volunteers to pitch in, they raised $4,000 for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office BulletProof Vest program. Eight hundred barbeque lunches were prepared and delivered to local businesses from Kenner to Garyville. Adjutant Tom Malik and committeemen Dave Gatt and Gene Franques headed the venture up.
Presentation of the check was made to Maj. Steve Guidry at the Legion’s November Business meeting, resulting in 10 deputies receiving new vests, in light of the tragedy suffered by local deputies several months ago.
