A couple from LaPlace, Brian and Monica Lewis, who live in New Era housing development in LaPlace, recently traveled to Paris to do a series of gospel concerts. Brian Lewis is from Algiers and Monica Lewis is from Edgard. Brian Lewis was formerly minister of music at Rev. Garrett’s First Baptist Church in Vacherie, where he worked under the tutelage of the Rev. Lucien Garrett, a singer and musician. They performed at a series of gospel music concerts that were organized with the help of Vacherie native Colin Gravois  in the Paris area. This is their fifth concert tour of France. The first one was in 1993, when the late Lucien Garrett headlined the concerts. The Rev. Brian Lewis pastors a church in Morgan City and the Rev. Monica Lewis officiates at a church in Edgard.

Between church matters, Brian drives an 18-wheeler three times a week delivering meat products from Reserve to parts of Louisiana and Mississippi but mostly to the casinos on the Gulf Coast, and the Rev. Monica Lewis teaches music at an elementary school in St. Charles Parish.

They have two children, a girl who is a freshman at Nicholls and a son who’s a senior at West St John. Both sing and play music with their parents at the churches.
