The love of money is the root of all evil

I’ve heard people say, “Money is the root of all evil.” That’s not accurate. The love of money is the root of all evil.
God speaks a lot about money and riches in the Scriptures. In Ecclesiastes 10: 19, the Word says money answers all matters. Money can be used to promote God’s Kingdom or for evil, which includes selfish pleasure.
If money guaranteed happiness, wouldn’t the rich be happier than anyone else? Studies show that often they’re not. Happy people don’t follow money; they follow their God-given passion.
Money can’t buy happiness, regardless of how much you have. It’s never enough. Fear of losing it will make a rich man think, “Unless I get more, I won’t be secure.
A few years ago, a very wealthy man, whom I’ve known for many years, needed me to do him a favor. In the course of our conversation, he repeated about how much he
was worth. After a while, I was tired of hearing about his financial success and asked him to lend me $100,000. It’s amazing how that question changed the subject about money.
I then asked if he ever read the Bible. He answered, “No.” I immediately said, “Don’t read it because it may convict you.”
I then related the story about
the rich, young ruler in Matthew
19: 21-22. He asked Jesus how he could secure eternal life. Jesus
said unto him, “Sell everything
you have and give it to the poor and you will have treasures in heaven and come follow Me.” When the young man heard that, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.
As I left him, I said that one day he might have to make that decision.
What most rich people don’t understand is that God does not want your money, but He wants you to be willing to give it up for eternal life.
Regardless if you’re rich or poor, are you willing to give up everything to follow Him?
