GRAMERCY — A second crash took place shortly after 2:30 a.m. on Louisina Highway 3125 north of Louisiana Highway 642 in St. James Parish and took the life of the 46-year-old driver, Leonard Green of Convent.

Preliminary investigation revealed the crash occurred as Green was driving north on Highway 3125 in a 2008 Kia sedan while engaged in a verbal and physical altercation with his front seat passenger. During the course of the argument, the front seat passenger, 43-year-old Tracy Young of St. James, grabbed and jerked the steering wheel of the vehicle, resulting in the Kia leaving the roadway to the right. As the Kia sedan left the paved roadway, it overturned several times before coming to rest on the east side of the highway.

Green sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. James Parish Coroner’s Office.

Young and a rear seat passenger, 57-year-old Allen Jacque of Convent, received moderate to severe injuries in the crash.

All three occupants of the Kia were wearing seatbelts and are suspected to have been impaired at the time of the crash. Troopers are continuing their investigation and charges are expected to be filed against Young for actions resulting in the crash.
