Gummy bear density

Eighth-grade students at Harry Hurst Middle in Destrehan recently practiced the scientific method and measurement skills while exploring the concept of density using gummy bears. Students collected qualitative and quantitative data by completing specific measurements along with detailed observations of their gummy bear before and after soaking the gummy bear in water for a 24-hour period. Students had to graph the data and answer questions comparing the changes in volume and density. Hurst eighth-graders (left to right) Dontonio Smith and James Robertson perform their initial measurements and observations on their gummy bear before soaking it in water.
