RESERVE – A portion of Central Avenue in Reserve will be closed to traffic starting Thursday morning as a crew from the Department of Transportation and Development works to repair a corroded sewer line.

About 100 feet of Central Avenue between the railroad tracks will be closed starting at 9 a.m. Thursday. The work is expected to be complete by 6 p.m. Saturday, according to St. John the Baptist Parish officials.

Paige Falgoust, spokesperson for the parish, said the work involves replacement of a corroded sewer line that was causing the road in the area to weaken in some spots. The work is not expected to cause issues with sewer system use, Falgoust said.

Local traffic will be allowed within the work zone, but any through traffic trying to get to River Road or Airline Highway will be detoured to west 10th Street or East 22nd Street
