St. James dug an early hole and couldn’t pull its way out on Friday, leading to a loss at home Friday to No. 7-ranked Brusly in a District 7-3A game, 55-22.
St. James (0-6, 0-2) has now lost 18 consecutive games.
Brusly (6-1, 2-0) scored on its first two drives of the night on touchdown runs by Jay Christophe and Carisel Alexander.
St. James answered on D’Kwan Sandolph’s 6-yard scoring pass to Taylor Dennis.
But that first quarter touchdown pass wouldn’t stem the Panther onslaught. Christophe hit DiMario Jackson for a 10-yard score to make it 21-6.
Brusly led 28-6 at halftime and 42-6 after three quarters.
Christophe completed 7 of 10 passes for 116 yards while adding 87 on the ground. He accounted for four touchdowns.
Brusly gained 391 total yards of offense.
Sandolph led St. James, completing 9 of 13 passes for 98 yards while rushing for 133. He finished with two touchdown passes and a touchdown run; the second touchdown pass went to Ashton Adams on a 34-yarder in the fourth quarter.
