LAPLACE – If there is one thing that the people of the River Parishes are passionate about it is football. This region in particular has quite a bit to be excited about, as local teams from high school, college, and the pros have enjoyed unprecedented success recently.

Surprisingly, however, there are a large number of residents who seem to be more excited about teams beyond LSU, Tulane, prep teams and the Saints. More than 50 percent of those who voted in last week’s L’Observateur online poll opted with “other.”

Considering the large level of success that the Saints and LSU have had recently, along with the multitude of high school teams who always seem to reach the state playoffs, who are these “other teams” people are cheering for? There are obviously more fans of other college and pro teams in this region than many realize.

A complete breakdown of results is as follows:

• 23 percent of respondents said, “New Orleans Saints.”

• 12 percent of respondents said, “LSU.”

• 2 percent of respondents said, “Tulane.”

• 6 percent of respondents said, “favorite local high school team.”

• 57 percent of respondents said, “other.”
