St. Charles United Methodist Church would like to honor the people that serve the community and nation along with raising awareness of the need to feed the hungry. Everyone is invited to join us for the third Annual 9-11K Fun Run–Walk–Bike. In observance of the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks everyone will gather and remember and then have a Fun Run–Walk–Bike. The event will take place on Sept. 8. It will start at the church at 7:30 a.m. and the ceremony at 8 a.m. The church is located at 1905 Ormond Blvd. in Destrehan.

Participants are asked to wear red, white and blue or if in a service organization please wear your uniform. Registration is $12 ($6 for children 10 and under) and will include a T-shirt (if turned in by Aug. 18), the run and food to conclude the fun time. Food and funds will also be accepted for the Matthew 25:35 Food Pantry. The church is working in conjunction with St. Charles Community Services, the American Red Cross, other churches and the school counselors to provide food for those that need some extra help. Food and school supplies are collected year round and welcome food collections from your organization, church or work place.

Runners and walkers will start at the church on Ormond Boulevard, walk up Ormond to the levee and then travel to Destrehan Plantation and back to the church. The bikers will travel to St. Rose which will be a 20.01K which is about 12 miles.

Sponsors are also needed to help cover the expenses of the event. Donations of bottled water, small flags for participants to carry, flags to put in front of the church and at the water stations and food for after the walk are needed. Local businesses are invited to post signs for the event and distribute registration forms. Volunteers are also needed to work the water stations and hand out flyers.
