Locals appointed to Lafourche Basin Levee District

BATON ROUGE – Four Luling residents and a Vacherie resident were among eight commissioner appointments to the Lafourche Basin Levee District made Monday by Gov. Bobby Jindal.
The board of commissioners is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the levees and maintaining the levee drainage system of the Lafourche Basin, which includes portions of St. John the Baptist, St. James, St. Charles, Ascension and Assumption parishes.
According to state statute, the board is comprised of nine gubernatorial appointments, which are subject to Senate confirmation. One member is nominated from the legislative delegation representing St. John, St. James, Ascension and Assumption parishes, two members are nominated from St. Charles Parish’s legislative delegation, and three members are nominated by the district’s legislative delegation and will serve as at-large members.
Commissioners appointed Monday include Joseph Dantin, Russell Loupe, Marlin Rogers, and Bill Sirmon, all of Luling, Wayne Waguespack of Vacherie, Leonce “LJ” Carmouche of Belle Rose, Mike McKinney of Donaldsonville and Robert LeBlanc of Labadieville.
Dantin is the president of Bayou Home Improvements, and Loupe is a retired electrician. Both were reappointed to serve as members nominated by St. Charles Parish’s legislative delegation.
Rogers is employed with the St. Charles Parish District Attorney’s Office and Sirmon is a public relations specialist for River Bank Landfill. Both were reappointed to serve as members nominated by the district’s legislative delegation as at-large members.
Waguespack is the Owner of Vacherie Mart, Inc., a heating and cooling equipment company.
He was reappointed to serve as a member nominated by the St. James Parish legislative delegation.
