LAPLACE — Belle Terre nailed down their first swim meet victory of the year Monday in front of their home fans, besting Ellington, 300-245.
The Piranhas rallied for the victory after trailing after two events. Belle Terre led 55-53 after the freestyle, but the Orcas fired back in the backstroke, winning that event by a 61-42 margin.
Belle Terre (1-4) pulled within four after the breaststroke, winning there 59-46, and the Ellington lead was just 203-202 after the butterfly, a 46-43 Belle Terre win.
The Piranhas took over in the relays, however, pulling away in the medley relay by outscoring Ellington 56-14. It made things official by besting the Orcas 42-28 in the freestyle relay.
“I’m very proud of all of our swimers,” said Belle Terre coach Hailey Montz. “They really pulled it together during the relays. I’m excited for them, and it’s good to get a win.”
Colby Watkins, Mallory Fernandez and Cari Jane Roussel led the way for Belle Terre, each securing three first place victories in their individual events.
Rebecca Grote and Madison Torres each came away with two victories.
Jesse Webre, Jobe Kelly, Blaine Tatje and Morgan Torres rounded out Monday’s event winners for Belle Terre.
Belle Terre was on bye Thursday night. It will close its season at LARAYO.
