LAPLACE – The true start of summer is still a full week away, but the summer movie season is in full swing, and there is quite a bit to be excited about as films of all genres are being released at a fast and furious pace.

Last week, L’Observateur polled website visitors offering a brief list of some of the more prominent summer movies due out in the weeks ahead. Our results were a bit surprising as one film in particular dominated the vote.

“Prometheus,” the science fiction thriller from “Alien” director Ridley Scott, was the overwhelming favorite garnering 75 percent of the vote. The next closest vote getter, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter,” based on a book that recasts the nation’s 16th president as a hunter of the undead, barely mustered 8 percent.

The true surprise of the poll was the small amount of support behind “The Dark Knight Rises,” the final chapter in Christopher Nolan’s highly acclaimed “Batman” trilogy has likely been the most hyped film of the year, but it only collected 7 percent of the vote.

A complete breakdown of the results is as follows:

• 8 percent of respondents chose, “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.”

• 7 percent of respondents chose, “The Dark Knight Rises.”

• 75 percent of respondents chose, “Prometheus.”

• 4 percent of respondents chose, “The Amazing Spiderman.”

• 5 percent of respondents chose, “Expendables 2.”
