JONES
On May 17, 2012, at approximately 4:20 p.m., the angel of death silenced the voice of Dolores Jones, affectionately known to many as “MoMo,” “MaMa, T-Dolores.
Dolores Macklin Jones was born on March 10,1937, to the late Paul Macklin and Mary Joseph in Central, La. She was reared by her grandparents Katherine and Thomas Joseph along with her cousins Wilbert and Frank Diggs.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Herbert Jones Sr. on August 8,1954. To this union nine children were born.
Realizing that the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life, Dolores accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church on August 15,1965, by the late Rev. Ernest Landry. She served faithfully as an usher. At the time of her death, she was serving as a deaconess under the leadership of the Rev. Samuel Jones.
She worked as a head start teacher for many years with Community Action. She was also one of eight parents who fought diligently to integrate the schools in 1966.
Dolores was a kind, loving and caring person with a passion for cooking. She fed the sick, cooked whatever they desired to eat and fed the entire community. Dolores taught her children and grandchildren the importance of always having Christ first in their lives. Dolores had a special gift, known as compassion, from God. She had great concerns for people who had been criticized by society due to challenges they struggled with in their lives. Those people she nurtured with a listening ear, heartfelt conversations, nourished meals, much laughter and of course, the word of God.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories five daughters: Gwendolyn (Cyril), Audrey (Ulysses) Temple and Wanda Jones, all of St. James, and Yolanda (Jerome Sr.) Picou and Charlene (EIton) Dumas of Convent; four sons: Herbert Jr. (Brenda) Jones and Jacobie (Brigett) Jones of Baton Rouge, Rodney Jones,of St. James and Gregory (Renee) Jones of Edgard; two sisters: Linda (Donald) Moore and Paula (Eric) Perkins of Convent; three brothers: Clifton (Nancy) Joseph and Aaron Joseph of Convent and Alvin (Patricia) Joseph of New Orleans; step mother Dorothy Macklin of Convent; one aunt, Joyce Joseph of Marrero; two sisters-in-law: Mary Smith and Josephine Jones; brother-in-law, Rev.
