LAPLACE – Authorities with the state Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are investigating the death of a boater, who apparently fell overboard Tuesday evening while on the Reserve Canal in St. John the Baptist Parish.

State Wildlife and Fisheries Capt. Chuck Comeaux said William G. Simon was with another man in a boat on the Reserve Canal when he suffered an apparent seizure and fell into the water just before 7 p.m. Tuesday. Comeaux said the other man in the boat, whose name was not given, was able to pull Simon from the water and return the boat to the launch. Simon was taken to River Parishes Hospital in LaPlace, where he was pronounced dead at 7:48 p.m.

Comeaux said no further information is available and added that the investigation is ongoing.
