LAPLACE – Registered Republicans in St. John the Baptist and St. James parishes are invited to participate this morning in the State Republican Caucus in LaPlace.
The caucus will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Quality Inn, located at 3900 U.S. 51, near the Interstate 10 interchange.
State Republican Party spokesman Nicholas M. James said the vote sets the delegates to the State Convention, which will be held in Shreveport on June 2. The State Convention sets the party platform and selects the delegates to the National convention.
James said each Congressional district sends 25 delegates and 12 alternates to the State Convention. St. James and most of St. John are in Congressional District 2. Parts of St. John are in Congressional District 6.
“In other words, the delegates elected Saturday help to set which Republican candidate Louisiana is for,” James said.
