LAPLACE – The St. John the Baptist Parish Utilities Department is asking some LaPlace residents to limit water use until further notice while repairs are made to a broken force main in the parish’s wastewater collection system.

Paige Braud, spokesman for the Parish, said the broken 18-inch wastewater main is located under the Vicknair Canal near the Woodland Treatment Plant in LaPlace. She said the Utlities Department and contractors from Boh Brothers Construction are installing a temporary line while repairs are made to the force main line.

“During this time, it is important that all residents on US 51, Woodland Drive, Live Oak Landing, and River Oaks, as well as residents between Golfview Drive, Greenwood Drive, Fairway Drive and Lafayette Drive minimize discharge into the wastewater collection system,” Braud said. “We are asking residents to refrain from washing clothes, running dishwashers and all other discharges into the collection system until further notice.”

Utilities Director Virgil Rayneri said the department is working around the clock to repair the force main as quickly as possible.
