LAPLACE – Sunday may have been Easter, but for local children, the treats began a day early with Easter activities across the River Parishes.

The St. John the Baptist Parish government once again held a slew of egg hunts at area parks.

With eight different events held through-

out the parish, the fun was in reach of just about everyone, and scores of children showed up to the parish’s largest egg hunt at Highway 51 Park in LaPlace.

The children, separated into different age groups, scooped up basket loads of colorful plastic eggs and were then treated to pizza.

Gem Drugs also held its annual Easter extravaganza Saturday, with activities taking place at both the Gramercy and the Reserve locations.

This was the third year the pharmacy has held an Easter event, and it seems to have become a cherished tradition in the community.

Owner Randy Mire said he and his wife, Kanoa Mire, enjoy the opportunity to be able to give back to the community.

The celebration included free snoballs, pictures with the Easter Bunny and a Spacewalk.
