West St. John Elementary Students Paige Young, Jo’Juan Jones, Jaquisha Oates and Lakendre Lewis huddle with Social Studies and Science teacher Brandon Walters as they try to locate a tributary of the Mississippi River on a giant map of North America on loan to the school from National Geographic. Walters has been using the 35-foot by 26-foot floor map, which will be at the school through next week, in lesson plans for various grade levels. The is the second stop for the traveling map in St. John Parish, as it made an appearance earlier this year at John L. Ory Magnet in LaPlace. (Staff photo by Robin Shannon.)
