Kindergarten registration times set for St. John public schools

RESERVE – The St. John the Baptist Parish School System will begin taking registrations for children planning to be in kindergarten for the 2012-2013 school year in April.
All incoming students can be registered on April 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Child Welfare and Attendance Office, located in the school board annex building near River Road and West 10th Street.
Incoming students also can be registered at the school in their attendance zone from 9 a.m. to noon on designated days, according to the following schedule:
• Lake Ponchartrain Elementary – April 23
• East St. John Elementary – April 24
• West St. John Elementary – April 25
• Fifth Ward Elementary – April 26
• LaPlace Elementary – April 27
• Emily C. Watkins Elementary – April 30
The following documents must be presented at the time of registration: the child’s original birth certificate, immunization records and social security card, as well two proofs of residence, such as a utility bill, driver’s license, state ID or voter registration card.
Elton J. Oubre Jr., director of child welfare and attendance, said those parents or guardians who complete the proper registration forms will have their child assigned to the school in his or her district attendance zone or in a magnet school, if applicable.
