LAPLACE – A bar fight in LaPlace early Thursday resulted in the arrest of an Alabama man after he allegedly cut another man with an unknown object.

Thomas Long, 46, of 155 Dykes Road, Mobile, Ala., was arrested on aggravated battery charges in connection with the fight, which occurred at a lounge in the 1100 block of East Airline Highway in LaPlace, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Clement said deputies were called out the bar around 12:17 a.m. for a reported fight. When they arrived they found a 29-year-old LaPlace man with several cuts to his right leg and arm. Clement said Long

also had an injury to his eye and blood on his face.

Both men were transported to River Parishes Hospital for treatment. Clement said Long was arrested upon his release from the hospital. His bond was not available.

Investigators said the two men, who were acquaintances, were arguing prior to the physical altercation, but it is not clear what sparked the argument. The LaPlace man was cut several times with an unknown object, and Long was punched in the face. No one else was injured during the incident.
