LAPLACE – A Norco woman was killed Friday morning in a one-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 90 in St. Charles Parish, according to a release from State Police.

Just before 10 a.m. Friday, Troop B responded to the crash at the intersection of Melonie Street in Boutte.

A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2000 Lincoln Town Car, driven by Cheryl Clay, 52, of Norco was traveling east on U.S. Highway 90 in the right lane, and for unknown reasons the Lincoln drifted off of the roadway and struck a tree, said State Police spokesperson Melissa Matey.

Matey said EMS rendered medical attention to Clay, but, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

Clay was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Matey said investigators believe that impairment is not suspected as a cause of the crash, but added that a toxicology exam is pending in the outcome of an autopsy.
