LAPLACE – River Parishes Hospital recently honored its Young At Art winners for the months of December 2010 through November 2011 at a reception held in the River Parishes Hospital Medical Pavilion. All of the winning artwork was displayed at the reception.
Gerald Fornoff, River Parishes Hospital CEO,
welcomed the young artists and their families to the
hospital’s 10th annual Young At Art Reception. He explained how much the hospital enjoys being able to feature its local artists on the “Wall of Art.” He then introduced Tammy Waltz, the hospital’s Community Relations coordinator, who oversees the Young At Art Program.
Waltz went on to explain about the program. Each month two classes are featured on the Wall of Art, which is located in the main entrance of the hospital. Students Pre-K through sixth grade are eligible to participate in the program. Three winners are selected who each win a $50 savings bond compliments of Capital One Bank. At the end of the year, all monthly winners are invited to a reception at which time three overall winners are selected, each winning additional savings bonds.
Each monthly winner was recognized and given an engraved picture frame to display his or her art work at home. Then, the overall winners were announced. Sean Prindle, a student at St. Charles Borromeo School, was selected as the first-place winner. He received a first-place ribbon and a $150 savings bond.
Second-place went to Carissa Boles, a student at Mimosa Park Elementary School. She received a second-place ribbon and a $100 savings bond.
Third-place went to Jaycen Mollere, a student at Riverside Academy. He received a third-place ribbon and a $50 savings bond.
“We started this program because we wanted to brighten up the hallway into the hospital and invite the community to visit the hospital and see the local talent we have in the River Parishes area,” said Waltz.
“It has proven to be a wonderful program as teachers call well in advance to schedule a month for their classes to be featured, and we receive numerous compliments on the pictures from our patients and visitors.”
