New Orleans Center for Creative Arts is currently looking for potential students for the statewide 2012 Summer Conservatory, the 2012-13 Instructional Program, and NOCCA’s full day school: Academic Studio. Your student should be passionate about their artform and ready for the next challenge NOCCA can provide.

NOCCA offers tuition-free intensive arts training in creative writing, culinary arts, dance, media arts, classical instrumental music, jazz, vocal, drama, musical theatre, theatre design, and visual arts to Louisiana upper-middle and high school students.

Students and parents are encouraged to visit www.nocca.com to download applications and for more information. All applications are due by Jan. 30.

Summer Conservatory

Taking place in June 11-16, the Summer Conservatory is a special summer instructional session for statewide Louisiana students currently in the eighth through 11th grades.

The Summer Conservatory is audition-based, providing a tuition-free intensive arts training session in various arts disciplines including: classical instrumental music, culinary arts, creative writing, dance, drama, media arts: filmmaking and audio production, musical theatre, jazz instrumental music, theatre design, visual arts or vocal music.

To apply, download and complete the NOCCA Arts Application, available at www.nocca.com. Students who mail in a completed application by Jan. 30 will be scheduled for an audition in the spring. Accepted students will be challenged, as this is not a summer camp experience. Dormitories are also available for statewide high school students.

Half-Day and Afterschool Arts Instruction

Applications for NOCCA’s traditional arts instructional program are due Jan. 30. During the school year, accepted high school students attend NOCCA either at 1:15 p.m. or 4 p.m., receiving elective credit for their coursework.  These programs are audition-based, tuition-free intensive arts training sessions in arts disciplines including: classical instrumental music, culinary arts, creative writing, dance, drama, media arts: filmmaking and audio production, musical theatre, jazz instrumental music, theatre design, visual arts or vocal music.

Also, current middle school students (fifth-seventh grades) are encouraged to apply for NOCCA’s Preparatory Afterschool Programs in dance, musical theatre or vocal music.

To apply, download and complete a NOCCA Arts Application, available at www.nocca.com.  Students who mail in a completed application by Jan. 30 will be scheduled for an audition in the spring.

Academic Studio

The New Orleans Center for Creative Arts has provided tuition-free arts training to high school students since 1973. Did you know NOCCA has a full-day option for students — one that includes not only outstanding training in the arts, but also study in academic subjects like science and history?

The new curriculum is called the Academic Studio, and it relies on the same rigorous, highly individualized approach to learning that lies at the heart of NOCCA’s successful arts training program.

The Academic Studio takes a comprehensive approach to learning, working across the full spectrum of the arts, science, and humanities. Classes revolve around small-group learning led by certified educators whose passion for their given subject matches their students’ passion for art.
