Incumbent wins in St. James, loses in St. Charles

In the only parish council race to require a runoff in St. James Parish, incumbent Jimmy Brazan narrowly defeated challenger Donald Nash to hold on to the District 7 seat. District 7 covers South Vacherie.
Brazan garnered 51 percent of the vote. Only 28 votes separated Brazan and Nash.
Challenger Lance Marino has won the election for clerk of court over incumbent Charles Oubre. Oubre has held the position since 1979.
Marino garnered 53 percent of the vote to Oubre’s 47 percent. He received 4,982 votes, while Oubre garnered 4,455.
The former councilman ran on a platform of bringing simple changes to the office to modernize its operations and make it easier to use for the average citizen.
