Every year since 1986, the Great 100 Nurses Foundation honors who they consider to be Louisiana’s 100 greatest nurses. This year, St. Charles Parish Hospital nurses Lisa Bourgeois, Joy Cochran and Jo Rae Wood were recognized as three of the Great 100 Nurses of Louisiana.

Nurses are nominated by peers, family members, friends or patients who must answer three questions: What has the nominated nurse done for humanity, what has the candidate done for the profession, and how has this person served as a mentor or role model for other nurses? An anonymous group of reviewers then score the unidentified nominees based on nominators’ answers to determine the Great 100.

All three nominees were greatly touched by the honor.

Joy Cochran stated, “It’s an honor to be recognized for the work that I love to do!”

With similar feelings Jo Rae Wood said, “I am proud to receive this award as a validation of my years of dedication to my nursing Profession.”

“St. Charles Parish Hospital is proud to have three nurses in Louisianas greatest 100.” Fred Martinez, CEO stated, “We are very proud of the contribution they make to the care of our patients. They continuously exemplify what it takes to be not only a caring and dependable nurse, but also a hardworking medical professional.”
