LAPLACE – Three campaign workers for St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff Wayne Jones were struck by a pickup truck Wednesday morning, according to State Police.
The accident happened near the intersection of Airline Highway and Belle Terre Boulevard, said Trooper Melissa Matey, spokesperson for State Police Troop B. Matey said an 18-wheeler ran a red light and hit the rear of the pickup truck, which spun around and hit the pedestrians, who were carrying campaign signs for Jones.
Matey said the victims, who suffered minor injuries, were taken to St. James Hospital.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was given a ticket for failure to stop at a red light.
Matey said the 18-wheeler also had equipment violations and has been taken out of service.
