God will always provide

People often ask me how long I’ve been involved in Get High on Life. The answer to that is 31 years. Their next question usually is, “What exactly do you do?” That’s a little harder to answer because I don’t really have a programmed agenda.

I share that I minister at different drug rehabilitation centers, hold meetings in jail to prepare inmates for life after their release, moderate family interventions, counsel people in person or on the telephone, conduct driver improvement and substance abuse classes for people convicted of a DWI and try to be a little light in this dark world.

I then remark that I firmly believe God, in His mercy, has given me this exciting work of telling people about the Good News of the Bible, and that’s the reason I’ll never give up or retire from God’s ministry.

The final question is, “How is the ministry funded?” I enjoy answering this question because it is a testimony in itself that Our Heavenly Father will provide our every need.

I have two fundraisers a year that were initially organized by my friend Danny Louque, owner of Quality Machine Works Inc. of Paulina. One, usually held in April in St. James Parish, is a banquet where testimonies are shared as we reach out to a lonely and hurting world. Many of my friends who serve on the advisory committee always make it a successful evening, not only by raising funds but by touching lives.

In October, Quality Machine Works sponsors a benefit golf classic, with all proceeds going to the ministry. This year on Oct. 10 the 14th Annual Golf Classic will be held at the Belle Terre Country Club in LaPlace. Tee time is 1 p.m. The entrance fee of $125 per person will include green fees, cart rental, shirt, lunch, refreshments, dinner, awards and prizes.

If you are unable to play, you may wish to sponsor a tee box sign for $100 with your choice of advertisement.

The public is invited to participate. It promises to be a day of fun and great fellowship. If you are interested, call Renee Waguespack at 225-869-7360, Danny Louque at 225-869-9809 or Harold Keller at 985-652-8477.
