RESERVE – A week after a heartbreaking loss, Riverside secured a big time victory at home on Friday night as it toppled Salmen in overtime, 15-9.

Jonquial Sanders’ 4-yard touchdown run sealed the victory on the Rebels’ second play of overtime. Riverside (1-1) stopped Salmen (0-2) from moving the ball on four downs in overtime, holding the Spartans to a field goal attempt; a bad snap led to Riverside corralling the holder behind the line for a loss.

The Spartans scored their first points of the game on a 42-yard interception return by Larry Warren at the end of the first quarter, making it 6-0.

The Rebels took a 7-6 lead on Nate Williams’ 2-yard scoring run in the second quarter. Riverside notched a safety after downing a punt inside the 1-yard line. Salmen’s Devin Montelongo forced overtime via a 34-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter.

But those would be Salmen’s last points on the night.

Riverside forced two turnovers on fumble recoveries. The Rebels only committed one, on Warren’s interception.

Williams rushed for 49 yards on 12 carries. Sanders added 53 yards on 13 attempts to lead the team. Tate Scioneaux passed for 119 yards on the night. Brandon Millet caught four passes for 39 yards.

Salmen’s Chris Thomas rushed for 169 yards on 23 carries to lead all rushers
