LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish are looking for suspects in connection with the armed robbery of a LaPlace Sonic Drive-In employee late Monday evening.

According to Capt. Andy Breaux, spokesman for the St. John Parish Sheriff’s Office, three female employees were closing the restaurant, located at 100 Ormond Drive in LaPlace, around 11:50 p.m. Monday. The employees headed to their separate cars when one woman carrying a bank bag from the restaurant was approached by a man wearing all dark clothing and a cloth cover over his face.

Breaux said the man brandished a weapon and demanded the woman hand over the bag. The woman complied, and the man fled the area on foot. When the woman screamed out for help, the two other women reported seeing a second man run from the area and behind a nearby building. Breaux said the second man could have been acting as a lookout for the gunman.

Breaux said deputies arrived on scene, spoke to several individuals and detained one man who was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Detectives have not determined if he is a suspect in the robbery.

Breaux said anyone who may have information on the robbery should contact the St. John Sheriff’s Office.
