LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish are investigating a carjacking LaPlace Monday morning after a man told St. John the Baptist Parish sheriff’s deputies his sport utility vehicle was stolen from his driveway.

Deputies responded to the 2300 block of North Sugar Ridge Drive at 6:55 a.m. Monday, where they were met with the 46-year-old victim, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office. The victim, who was not injured, told deputies that he got into his white 1997 Ford Expedition to leave for work when an unidentified male suspect dressed in all black appeared from the cargo area of the vehicle armed with a handgun.

Clement said the suspect told the man to get out of the vehicle. When the victim complied, the suspect jumped into the driver’s seat and drove away. The suspect drove to Fairway Drive, then toward Belle Terre Boulevard.

Anyone with information on the carjacking is asked to call St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives at 985-359-8769.
