Lutcher — This year’s St. James Parish Relay event earned more than a record-breaking $162,000 for the American Cancer Society, leaving the parish Relay Committee, teams and sponsors a lot to celebrate.

The Relay for Life of St. James wrap-up party was celebrated on Saturday, June 30, at the KC Hall in Lutcher. The event brought together groups that worked throughout the year to help raise money and spread awareness about the cause. Spon sors, committee members and teams celebrated this year’s success with delicious treats, a commemorative cake and a slideshow summarizing the year’s events.

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy and service.
