LAPLACE – A second man wanted in connection with a shooting in Reserve late last month that is believed to be in retaliation for another incident was arrested Tuesday.
Gustavo Shinard, 23, of Homewood Place in Reserve, turned himself in to the Criminal Investigations Bureau and was booked with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated criminal damage to property, said Capt. Dane Clement, spokesman for the St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Shinard is accused in a shooting that took place July 19 in the 300 block of Homewood Place. Authorities have already arrested another man, 25-year-old John Brown of Reserve, who is also believed to be involved in the shooting.
According to a release from Clement, deputies responded to the 300 block of Homewood place at 10:38 p.m. June 19 in response to a 911 call from a man who said he had been shot. The man told investigators he was getting out of his work truck when two male suspects approached and started shooting at him. Clement said detectives found a bullet hole in the truck and a projectile on the floorboard.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to secure warrants for both Brown and Shinard as the suspects, Clement said. He also said detectives believe that Brown and Shinard’s alleged actions were in retaliation for a shooting that happened June 18, in which a relative of the victim was arrested for shooting a relative of Shinard during an argument.
According to a release on the earlier shooting, a 25-year-old man was allegedly shot in the chest by Issac Gant, 23, of Homewood Place following an argument in the street. Clement said Gant was arrested without incident at his home shortly after the shooting took place and was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Later in that same evening, deputies were again called to Homewood Place in response to another shooting in the area. A man called police after he was shot at while driving down the street, Clement said.
When deputies arrived, three family members in two separate vehicles said they were shot it in their cars. No one was injured and neither car was hit.
Based on statements given to deputies and evidence collected at the scene, deputies arrested Julius Fleming, 27, Davarian King, 22, and Michaelangelo Jones, 20, all of Reserve. All three were charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. It was later determined that Jones is related to the victim shot by Gant.
Shinard is being held at the Sherman Walker Correctional Facility in LaPlace on a $515,000 bond.
