Entering its 12th year, the River Region Drama Guild’s Children’s Summer Theatre Workshop consists of eight evenings of instruction in acting, voice and movement. Offered in its popular long-standing format, the workshop will be held this year on July 11-14 continuing July 18-21, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at the River Region Performing Arts and Cultural Center, 15146 River Road in Norco. The workshop will guide children through a variety of theatrical exercises geared toward the ages of 10 – 18.
This is a program designed to teach students about theater, both on stage and behind the scenes. Participants will learn and practice components of live theater including stage movement, acting and directing. They will rehearse and produce a play in which all will participate. Students will grow artistically and personally in a non-competitive, validating, nurturing, interactive environment where energy, teamwork and trust are key. Participants will train and rehearse for a play. The workshop is designed to encourage the development of theater performance skills in young performers ages 10-18, culminating in a free live performance at the end of the session. This workshops offer an incredible opportunity for youngsters to hone their skills among peers with the same passion for the performing arts.
The program will finish with a free public performance at the center on July 21. Acting and musical experience is not required. This workshop is sponsored by the United Way of St. Charles and is free to participants. Preregistration in not required. For more information call Henry Sorbet at 504-331-0990.
