Celebrating 53 years with a great woman

On Tuesday, May 24, Jeanne and I celebrated our 53rd wedding anniversary. We were married at St. Hubert Church in Garyville. Father Pete Bergeron performed the ceremony. It’s hard to believe it’s been that long, but as I reminisce, it seems like only yesterday.

The Bible says that when you find a wife, you’ve found a good thing. Believe me; God blessed me with the best.

When speaking to married couples, I often state what the Bible says about a wife. I immediately say to the husband what it says about finding a husband …. nothing.

Jeanne told me later that on her ride to church with her dad, he said, “Wouldn’t it be good if Harold didn’t show up!” He wasn’t kidding!

We, like most couples, wanted to have children immediately. We had agreed to have 10. We were blessed with children, but limited were to four because Jeanne had to have Caesarean sections.

Our four children have given us 15 grandchildren, and we are blessed with four great-grandchildren, expecting our fifth.

Like many marriages, we’ve experienced many trying times. Only a God-fearing wife, who took her marriage vows seriously, saved our marriage. In the midst of our most troubled times, Jeanne prayed, and God answered her prayers.

Today, as we are enjoying our golden years surrounded by a loving family, many friends, and laboring in God’s ministry of Get High on Life, I am so grateful. Grateful for a godly wife who has loved me unconditionally and has been the glue that has kept our family together.

Jeanne, thanks for being the godly woman that you are. You’ve been a great wife, excellent mother, loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Happy Anniversary!
