The LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department scheduled its annual “Meet a Firefighter” event to be held at Sicily’s on Tuesday, May 24, 5 – 9 p.m., which is also Tuesday Kid’s Eat Free Night. The event hours are new and updated from last year. Firefighters will be on hand, along with various trucks and equipment in an effort to educate the public on the role of the volunteer department, as well as other opportunities.

“This annual event helps the LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department promote fire safety,” explained Assistant Fire Chief Robert Bourgeois. He continued, “We have a lot of fun and enjoy sharing fire prevention tips with the public.” The department’s primary responsibility is to answer fire and accident calls. The LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department always has a place for volunteers and reminds residents that there are many positions available for those interested in serving that do not involve fighting fire.

Membership applications are available online at www.laplacevfd.com. LaPlace Volunteer Fire Department operates five stations: Station 51 located on Hemlock Street, Station 52 on Walnut St., Station 53 on St. Andrews Boulevard, Station 54 on Woodland Drive and Station 55 on Belle Pointe Boulevard.
