Ascension Community Theatre is looking for actors, dancers and singers for the upcoming production, the Broadway favorite “Annie.” Auditions for the classic musical will be held at Ascension Community Theatre, 823 Felicity St., Gonzales, Friday, April 29, through Sunday, May 1. This production requires a wide variety of types and talents to fill many roles beyond the principal cast: men, women, boys and girls of all races, creeds and religions are encouraged to take part in this family favorite. All ages are invited to try out, but the youngest that can be accepted for such a strenuous endeavor is 9-years-old. Understudies will also be cast, and Sandy the dog will be cast in costume…there is a part for every type of talent.
Those auditioning are asked to prepare a selection from the musical theatre/popular standards canon that shows vocal range and is appropriate for a Broadway musical. Please, no hymns or recent (post-1980) Disney songs. Selections from the show are welcome, but try to be original – songs from the 1930s are encouraged.
Those auditioning will also be asked to dance – wear comfortable clothing. Auditions will be closed to friends and family – those accompanying the auditionees must wait in the lobby.
ACT is accepting appointments for singing and dancing auditions via email as follows:
Friday, April 29: Children can schedule auditions between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Adults can schedule auditions between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Saturday, April 30: Children can schedule auditions between 10 a.m. and noon. Adults can schedule auditions between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Callbacks will be the afternoon and evening of Sunday, May 1, as scheduled by the director. Rehearsals begin May 23.
The show will run three weekends in July, starting July 7 and running through July 24.
Conflicts will be discussed, but auditionees with fewer conflicts will be favored. This is a big show and attendance at rehearsal and performances is crucial to success.
