St. Charles Catholic High 5k run/walk this weekend

The 11th annual FCA “Run for the Son” 5K race and one-mile fun run/walk will be held Saturday, April 9, at St. Charles Catholic High School. The one mile fun run /walk will begin at 8 a.m. and the 5K race will follow at approximately 8:30 a.m. Both races will begin and end on the St. Charles Catholic High campus.

This year’s race will be dedicated to SCC faculty member Bryan Kenner and Dwain Richard, father of Emma Richard and Renee Richard. Kenner and Richard were recently diagnosed with leukemia.

The FCA “Run for the Son” has grown over the years and is the largest 5K race held in St. John Parish each year and second largest race held the River Parishes. Last year the race set a record with 308 runners and walkers of all ages.

Awards and prizes will be given out after the race. Grand prizes winners will be awarded in both races for both male and female categories. Winners in age categories will be awarded in the 5K race only. Prizes are also awarded to SCC students, faculty and alumni.

otc.org. Entry forms will be also be available at local businesses such as Smoothie King of LaPlace, Airline Athletic Center, Curves and St. Charles Catholic High School. Entry fees are $15 for adults, $12 for college and high school students, $10 for youth – elementary school and lower. Runners and walkers can submit a $10 for T-shirt, but no T-shirt entry the day of the race.

All race participants will receive an official race T-shirt and tickets for concessions and will be eligible for the door prizes to be given away at the awards ceremony. Door prizes include gift certificates, gift cards, gas cards and discount coupons from local restaurants and businesses.

All participants should arrive no later than 30 minutes prior to the planned starting times for both races in order to complete registration and receive your race number. Registration will be held in the school gym.

Proceeds from the race benefit the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and will help finance local athletes’ expenses to summer camps.
