Senior HES Professional (left to right) Dave Elder, Advanced Senior Refining Engineer Tim Joyce and Marathon College Co-op Bobby Jones perform an Alka-Seltzer rocket experiment with students (left to right) Jaelon Meggs, Don Crouch, Edward Robertson and Raylynn Preston as fourth-grade teacher Elizabeth Thompson, watches awaiting the flying of the film canister rockets. Water and a piece of Alka-Seltzer tablet are placed in a film canister. The water dissolves the Alka-Seltzer tablet and releases an acid and a base. The acid and the base react to form carbon dioxide gas. The amount of gas builds up until it fills the canister and forces the cap off. Carbon dioxide is the same gas found in soda.
