St. Hubert’s Festival this weekend

The St. Hubert’s Festival announced the dates of its annual festival, which will be held on the church grounds in Garyville from Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 27.

Washer Board Tournaments will be held on Saturday and Sunday. Registration for Saturday’s tournament begins at 10 a.m. with play beginning at 11 a.m. and Sunday’s registration is at noon with the tournament beginning at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams.

The Bake-Off Contest is open to all bakers of any age. Divisions for the Bake-Off contest include either cakes or pies and must be homemade. No store-bought entries of any type will be accepted. Entry fee to the bake-off contest is $5. All entries must be turned in by 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 26. Children of all ages may participate in the Cookie Decorating contest, which begins at 3:30 p.m. Registration is $2 per child. Pre-registration is required for the Cookie Decorating Contest. Prizes will be awarded for both contests.

If excitement is your thing, then sign-up to participate in a version of “Minute To Win It.” The game will be played on Friday night as well as Sunday afternoon. Registration fee is $10 per person with prizes being awarded to first, second and third places for both games.

The festival will feature many other activities throughout the entire weekend for the entire family. Friday night’s activities include a Fried Fish dinner beginning at 5 p.m. and “Minute to Win It” and free bunko game starting at 7 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to winners.

No outside food or drinks will be allowed for this event. Food and drinks will be available for purchase. This event is open to teens and adults only.

Saturday’s festivities will include a performance by the Christian Rock band Driven at 3 p.m. The “Specialty Chefs” dinner begins at 5 p.m. and will offer a variety of entrees. Four entrée selections may be entered for a cost of $7. Then there will be Bingo beginning at 6 p.m. with guaranteed pots of $50. Entertainment by the band Off the Hook begins at 7 p.m.

The Car Show is the main attraction on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. Dirty Rice and baked chicken dinners will be served beginning at 11 a.m. At noon the Navy Showband is scheduled to perform with a live auction at 1 p.m Joey Keller and the Westend Boys will provide live entertainment beginning at 6 p.m.

Activities offered throughout the weekend include crafts, a petting zoo sponsored by St. John Parish 4-H as well as other performances by local dance teams and karate groups. Jambalaya, hamburgers, nachos and a variety of other foods will be served on both days.
