St. Charles extended its record to 4-0 in golf matches this season, defeating John Curtis and Destrehan in a pair of 9-hole competitions at Riverlands Country Club this week.
The Comets first defeated Curtis Tuesday, 186-223. Then on Wednesday, SCC shot a season-best 166 to capture a 166-191 win.
Against Destrehan, the Comets’ Matt Autin highlighted the field, shooting a career-best 37.
“I was just feeling it. I made every putt,” said Autin. “Early on, I made one downhill about 20 feet, I had to play it about 15 feet above the hole. When it went in, I kind of knew it was my day … even in practice, playing around I’ve never shot 37.”
St. Charles coach Gary Zeringue was proud of his senior’s effort.
“He’s successful because of his attitude,” said Zeringue. “I’ve had guys with more talent, but Matt just loves the game and it shows in his efforts. He’s off to a great start this year and I hope it continues and we see him play the best golf he’s ever played in his senior year.”
Lance Perrilloux shot 41 for SCC. Ryan St. Pierre shot 43 and Jesse Coleman rounded things out with a score of 45.
For Destrehan, Miguel Miranda shot 40. Jason Fogarty added a score of 46.
On Tuesday, the Comets had some players out for missing practice over the holidays, but nonetheless downed Curtis for the second time this season.
Perrilloux scored 42. Autin shot 44 and St. Pierre each shot 44 and Zach Vitrano shot 56.
For Curtis, Bobby Dodd led the way with a score of 42.
“I’m pleased because I feel like we’re getting better and better each match,” said Zeringue. “What I feel really good about is seeing how we shot over the last few days considering the Mardi Gras layoff. You want to get into a routine and we haven’t had that, but it hasn’t affected our performance.”
