SORRENTO – River Parishes Community College is gauging interest in a night drafting class at its Sorrento campus.
Students will learn two- dimensional drafting using the AutoCADD program. The class prepares students for entry-level drafting positions in engineering, architecture and patent law firms without sacrificing day-time employment.
Dan Melancon, the instructor of the drafting class, provides his students not only with a basic knowledge of AutoCADD but also with the experiences that come with his over 35 years of experience in the engineering field.
Melancon also uses the business connections he cultivated throughout a 35-year career in drafting to help his students with job placement.
The class could be a good opportunity for people looking to change careers. The night class allows students to prepare for a career in drafting while pursuing other employment during the day.
The class will last approximately four months, with a tentative start date in mid-March.
The drafting class must reach a quota of students to offer the class. People interested in the drafting class may contact Melancon at 225-939-8311 or dmelancon@rpcc.edu, or they may contact RPCC at 225-675-5397.
