LAPLACE – Authorities in St. John the Baptist Parish are investigating a shooting Friday morning that injured a 41-year-old LaPlace woman.

Capt. Dane Clement, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office, said deputies were called to the 100 block of Carmichael Court in LaPlace at about 12:25 a.m. where they found the woman with a single gunshot wound to her upper left chest under the arm. Clement said the woman appeared intoxicated but was alert and responsive.

The woman was taken to University Hospital in New Orleans, where she is being treated for her injuries.

Clement said investigators learned the victim had been talking to a group of five male subjects prior to the shooting. She told investigators she did not know who shot her and would not cooperate further.
