Mya LaGrange has continued the tradition of Destrehan High School students doing well at the American Legion Oratorical Contest. LaGrange, a junior, has now won both the parish and district competitions. Faye Kindl is LaGrange’s speech coach.
Her speech, titled “The Constitution: An Optimistic Approach,” was made up of both a nine-minute prepared text and an impromptu speech on a chosen topic. The parish competition was held on Jan. 17, where her impromptu speech was on the 27th Amendment.
The district 4 completion was held Jan. 27. The 10th Amendment was the impromptu topic for
this competition. LaGrange will be traveling to Shreveport to compete in the state competition on March 5.
