RESERVE – Riverside had a short break from district play Saturday as it faced Lusher for the second time this season, falling to the Lions 3-0 in the Rebels’ second to last game of the season.

The Rebels fell 4-1 at Lusher last month.

Riverside coach Stephen Millet called the contest his team’s last “friendly match” of the season, noting that the Rebels (8-10-1) moved a number of players around to different positions — to see how they’d fare and also to create different opportunities for the team’s seniors.

“It gives us an idea of where some players can fit in, but also it was our last chance to satisfy that last itch for our seniors,” said Millet, who noted senior goalkeeper Kaci Simon playing in the field as one example.

That also opened up a chance for Millet to take a look at a potential goalkeeper for next season, sophomore Kori Bourgeois.

“She did alright for herself,” said Millet. “We’re going to work on some technical things with her. But for being thrown out there like she was without the experience, she did well.”

Lusher led 2-0 at halftime.

Riverside finishes its regular season at home against E.D. White Thursday with the district standings still up in the air. E.D. White has two wins and has two games to play against St. Charles. The Rebels and Comets each have one win, each coming over the other.
