LAPLACE – St. Charles defeated Ascension Catholic at home Tuesday by a convincing margin, 68-34.

The Comets were led by Mike Green’s 19 points. Taylor Peytavin scored 17. Harley Scioneaux scored 14,

The Comets led 22-13 at halftime but really opened things up in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-7. In the fourth quarter, things escalated with SCC outscoring ACHS 27-14.

“We started off with our defense,” said St. Charles coach Chris Perrone. “We were able to get some turnovers to jump out in the first half. Offensively, we missed some opportunities, rushed a little bit.”

But Perrone said his team settled down in the second half and were as such rewarded.

“The energy and effort were there all night, but in the second half we started to take our time and put things together,” he said. “We executed and in the fourth quarter, guys started knocking shots down and it built great confidence.”

It was a bounce-back win for SCC, which lost to Warren Easton on Dec. 17, 57-46, at St. Charles.

John Williams scored 16 to lead the Comets. Peytavin scored 12 and Jesse Coleman scored 10.
