RESERVE – Riverside collected its third victory of the season Tuesday as it toppled host East St. John, 7-0, at Joe Keller Memorial Stadium.

Shelby Deslatte, Jordan Duhon and Mary Gurley each scored twice for the Lady Rebels. Chelsie Cupit and Maddie Duhon each scored once.

“It definitely boosts our confidence,” said Deslatte. “We still need some work, we’ve got a lot of new players that are meshing together. But we’re getting there.”

Deslatte said that the team’s improved chemistry, particularly when it comes to passing, has inspired its run of recent good play. The Rebels (3-6-1) collected all three of their victories in the span of a week, one that also included a winless but nonetheless impressive showing at last weekend’s Hahnville tournament against a slate of top competition.

“”We’re passing more, trying to get through balls, working on giving the defense a number of different runs and looks,” said Deslatte.

Riverside coach Stephen Millet agreed with his standout.

“We passed it well and kept our form,” said Millet. “We let the ball do the work. I think the girls are coming together nicely and playing very unselfishly. If we continue to knock it around, good things will happen.”

Riverside defeated Independence 10-0 and defeated Haynes 6-2 last week to secure their first two wins of the season.

Deslatte scored four goals to lead the way against Independence. Jordan Duhon scored twice. Cupit, Taylor Terrio and Kaci Simon each scored to round out the Rebels’ scoring.

Against Haynes, Terrio led the way with a trio of goals.

Deslatte and Jordan Duhon rounded out the scoring with a goal each.
