Lutcher coach Tim Detillier was a bit disappointed at his team’s start on Friday night at Morgan City, after the Tigers took a 6-0 lead on an interception return for a score.

But the alarm bells went off loud and clear on the Bulldogs’ sideline and any sleepwalking through the early going was eliminated. Lutcher answered within a minute and went on to score the next eight touchdowns in a 54-6 District 8-4A rout of Morgan City.

The Bulldogs outgained the Tigers 352-64 and turned the ball over just once.

“I was a little disappointed in our start, with two three-and-outs on the first two series,” said Detillier. “I feel like it reflected the way we practiced this week. But at the same time, we’re 9-1, undefeated district champions. And that’s something to be proud of.”

Daniel Taylor was the picture of efficiency, needing only eight carries to roll up 215 yards and three touchdowns for Lutcher. Ruston Matherne led the way through the air, completing five of his seven throws for 96 yards and two scores. Hr also ran for a touchdown. Jared Poche added another touchdown pass. Taylor, Jarvis Landry and Dorian Semien each hauled in scoring passes and Christian Matherne added a touchdown run.

The win nailed down an outright District 8-4A title for Lutcher, which clinched at least a share of that crown a week ago.

Even so, Detillier said there’s still work to be done.

“We haven’t put four full quarters together, and time has run out,” said Detillier. “It’s the best time of the year right now, win or go home. A coach is never completely satisfied, but I do know that we’re going to have to play a complete game going forward if we’re to accomplish the goals we have
