DESTREHAN — A tough loss punctuates a tough season for Destrehan.

The Wildcats fell at home Friday to St. Amant in overtime, 39-36, to finish their season 3-7.

Britton Day’s 2-yard touchdown run provided the winning points for St. Amant after Destrehan was held to a 24-yard Daniel Cimeno field goal to begin extra play.

Destrehan led 25-16 at halftime but the Gators rallied in the second half to send the game to overtime. Justin Manton had a chance to win the game in regulation, but his field goal attempt sailed outside of the uprights as time ran down in the fourth quarter.

Kevin Smith ran for two touchdowns for Destrehan. Tarquin Kenner also scored twice, once on a rush and once on a fumble return.

The loss likely closes the door on Destrehan’s playoff hopes — the Wildcats had a chance to qualify for the postseason with a win thanks largely to strength of schedule.
